About the Artist
Lisa Schilling makes sculptures, drawings and videos that address the architectures of identity through the experience narrative. Her work draws formally on her years in the film industry where, in the cinematic tradition, stories are constructed, histories are refashioned and characters and events are repainted and repeated.
Lisa Schilling was born and raised in a small town in Northern California where an early brush with violent crime and community scandal made a deep and lasting impression. After working in the film industry in Los Angeles building sets and mixing large quantities of fake blood for horror films she attended art school at CCAC in Oakland, CA (now CCA) and MICA in Baltimore, MD. Lisa lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
